India vs West Indies Highlights, World Cup 2019: Kohli, Dhoni and Shami fire India to 125-run win

As it happened: India continue their unbeaten run in the tournament with their 125-run win over two-time champions West Indies. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni slammed respective half-centuries to take India’s score to 268/7 in 50 overs. Windies were blown away by the pace of Mohammed Shami who ended the match with four wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal scalped two wickets each while Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav ended with one wicket each.Follow highlights of India vs West Indies here:

Kohli named man of the match

Virat Kohli has been named the man of the match for his excellent innings of 72. He says during the post match presentation that he is happy with the performance of the team. The India skipper also lauded the performances of Pandya and Dhoni, who fired them to 268 after a middle-order collapse.

Mohammed Shami picks his fourth wicket of the day as he gets rid of Oshane Thomas for 6. With that, India have recorded a convincing 125-run win. Shami ended with four wickets, Chahal scalped two while Bumrah scalped two to star in India’s massive win. Not to forget the contributions of Kohli and Dhoni, who helped them to this commanding score on this track.

Kemar Roach and Oshane Thomas are trying to bat for as long as possible but they have been able to score boundaries as well. The duo have somehow managed to score four boundaries in the last four overs and they are frustrating the Indian fans in the stand.

This is simply unbelievable stuff as Oshane Thomas is given a second lifeline in a span of six deliveries. The southpaw hit the ball towards mid wicket but KL Rahul spilled the catch. Virat Kohli is not looking a happy man at the moment.

Oshane Thomas edged a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery into the hands of Rohit Sharma at first slip. The third umpire ruled it as not out as he reckoned the Rohit didn’t have his fingers underneath the ball. Thomas survives to live another day.

Shendon Cottrell hits Yuzvendra Chahal for a four and six towards cow corner and long on respectively. But then, the leggie traps Cottrell in front of the wicket and the tailender was adjudged LBW by the umpire. Windies have lost their 9th wicket now.

Shami picks his third

Mohammed Shami picks his third wicket of the day as he gets rid of Shimron Hetmyer for 18. The southpaw hits the ball straight into the hands of KL Rahul at point. Windies lose their eighth wickets and are on the verge of a heavy defeat.

India let go off a wicket

Shimron Hetmyer edges a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery into the hands of Hardik Pandya at leg slip. The fielder wasn’t sure that he had taken a clean catch so he didn’t appeal vociferously. The umpire also turned it down but replays showed that it was indeed a clean catch from Pandya.

Bumrah strikes again

First ball duck for Fabian Allen as a fast delivery from Jasprit Bumrah hits him on the pads and the right-hander has been adjudged LBW. Umpire’s call was retained even after he decided to invoke the DRS. Windies are 7 down in the chase now. No hat-trick for Bumrah as Kemar Roach successfully negates a slow yorker from the India pacer.

Good catch from Dhoni

Jasprit Bumrah picks his first wicket of the day but it would not have been possible without the stunning effort from MS Dhoni. Carlos Brathwaite edged a Bumrah delivery and MS Dhoni jumped full length to his right to take a one-handed catch. Windies are six down now in the chase.

Bumrah returns into the attack

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah returns into the attack and almost picks up a wicket. He bowls a slow yorker which Carlos Brathwaite fails to read and the ball just landed in front of a diving Kohli near the strip. Then, he bowled a fast yorker which was successfully defended by Brathwaite.

Windies lose half their side

Another one bites the dust as Yuzvendra Chahal gets rid of Jason Holder for 6. The right-hander hits the ball straight into the hands of Kedar Jadhav in the covers. Windies have now lost half their side as Chahal picks his first wicket of the innings.

Kuldeep Yadav almost had his second wicket of the day but the spinning delivery hit Jason Holder wide outside the leg stumps. Indian spinners are working well in tandem as Windies batsmen are still searching for boundaries.

Yuzvendra Chahal has finally been introduced into the attack as India look to pile on the pressure further. He conceded 8 runs off his first over but four runs were courtesy of a wicket-keeping error from Dhoni.

By dismissing Nicholas Pooran, Kuldeep Yadav has picked up his 150th International wicket. He has picked 91 wickets in ODIs, 35 in T20Is and 24 in Tests.

Nicholas Pooran becomes the fourth Windies batsman to head back into the hut as he is dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 28. The southpaw went for the slog shot but ended up giving an easy catch to Mohammed Shami at long-off. India are in full control of the Windies chase now.

Shimron Hetmyer was adjudged LBW after a Kuldeep Yadav wrong one hit him on the front foot. But the southpaw went for the DRS straightaway and replays showed that the ball had hit the pads after taking an inside edge. Hetmyer survives.

Hardik Pandya has broken this dangerous partnership between Nicholas Pooran and Sunil Ambris as he gets rid of the latter for 31. The ball straightened after pitching and crashed into the batsman’s pads and the umpire raises his finger. Windies have lost their third wicket now.

Slowly and steadily, Sunil Ambris and Nicholas Pooran are building the platform for Windies. They were rocked by two early blows but the duo have steadied the ship well in the last few overs.

Hardik Pandya starts well as he concedes just 4 singles in the over. India are now introducing spin in the attack as Kuldeep Yadav replaces Mohammed Shami. India have done well to keep the run rate down as Windies batsmen haven’t been able to hit boundaries.

This has been a great start for India - both Shami and Bumrah have been on the money and they have not allowed Ambris and Gayle to get going. The pressure will build up, but India will still need to pick up wickets against these six-hitters of West Indies.
