Kohli managed just 134 runs at an average of 13.4 during India's recent 3-1 loss in a five-Test series in England.

But it was a different story on Friday as he made 71 and Ambati Rayudu's 72 in a total of 230 that might have been more had not Middlesex off-spinner Ollie Rayner taken four quick wickets, with the tourists bowled out inside 45 overs.

However, India had more than enough runs as it turned out, with Karn Sharma taking three for 14 as Middlesex slumped to 135 all out inside 40 overs.

World champions India face England in the first of a five-match one-day series at Bristol on Monday.
