IPL 2019: RR vs DC - Delhi Capitals predicted XI - Prithvi Shaw out, debut expected

IPL 2019: With Shikhar Dhawan in good form, DC needs someone from the other end to compliment the southpaw and the time has come for Punter to make that change.

They say not to tinker with a winning combination and Delhi Capitals are pretty much on a role right now. But with the team locked in a tough battle for a play-off spot, it is advisable for coach Ricky Ponting to make changes in areas where it is necessary.

One big problem for Delhi has been the opening partnership, which has just not clicked so far. The prime reason for that is the iffy form of Prithvi Shaw. The youngster played a gem of a knock against Kolkata Knight Riders early in the season, stamping his class with an innings of 99 runs. Shaw though has hit a lean patch since and has failed to get past the 30-run mark in 7 innings, with only two of those being in the 20s.

With Shikhar Dhawan in good form, DC needs someone from the other end to compliment the southpaw and the time has come for Punter to make that change. Prithvi Shaw’s U-19 World Cup-winning teammate Manjot Kalra is also in the squad and the youngster deserves a look in. If he clicks then it will be a bonus, if he doesn’t DC can go back to Shaw for the remaining matches. It is a change that won’t hurt the team and could hand a possible debut to a youngster waiting for an opportunity.

The rest of the team picks itself with the likes of Kagiso Rabada and skipper Shreyas Iyer expected to be the key players yet again. Sherfane Rutherford is expected to keep his place in the team ahead of Chris Morris. Rajasthan Royals are also on the move in the points table and have brought back Steve Smith as captain to make a final push for a play-off spot.

A victory in today’s match will go a long way in helping DC consolidate their position among teams which are favourites to get a play-off spot.

Predicted XI: Manjot Kalra, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant, Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane
