RR skipper Samson completed 500 runs for the first time in his IPL career. Putting up a fight for the Royals, local hero Riyan Parag smashed 48 off 34 balls while a promoted Ravichandran Ashwin chipped in with a crucial cameo of 28 off 19 balls as Samson and Co. posted 144-9 in 20 overs. Retaining the Purple Cap from Mumbai Indians superstar Jasprit Bumrah, pacer Harshal Patel bagged two wickets and leaked 28 runs in his four overs.

Triggering a top-order collapse of the Punjab Kings, Avesh Khan bagged two wickets in his first over as Curran and Co. were reduced to 36-3 in 4.5 overs. However, skipper Curran teamed up with Jitesh Sharma (22) before Impact Player Ashutosh Sharma played a crucial cameo to stage Punjab's comeback. Skipper Curran remained unbeaten on 63 off 41 balls to seal a five-wicket win for the Punjab Kings.
