Virat Kohli captain of the Indian team in the under-19 World-Cup, Pradeep Sangwan and Tanmay Srivastava, also a part of the same squad, have been awarded with Border-Gavaskar scholarships for 2008. They will undergo six weeks’ training at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane, Australia.

Pradeep Sangwan, feels that the opportunity has come as reward for his performance in the recent under-19 World Cup, which India won.

“It’s really good to receive the scholarship…I think my performance in the World Cup has been taken into consideration for this,” said Sangwan.

Srivastav, on the other hand, believes it’s an ‘honour’ to get the scholarship. “This is the most sought-after scholarship and I am really lucky to get this,” said Srivastav. “I am looking forward to further working on my skills and improving my game while we will be trained in Australia,” he added. Srivastav is the fourth cricketer from Uttar Pradesh to get this scholarship after R.P. Singh, Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla.

Meanwhile, Mumbai seamer Dhaval Kulkarni, who did well for the Mumbai IPL team, has been also named for a training stint. Kulkarni’s trip will be sponsored by the Mumbai Cricket Association, under their recently-instituted Dilip Sardesai scholarship.

The quartet will leave for Brisbane on Saturday.
