Dasun Shanaka to Faf du Plessis, 1 run

And that will do for TSK. On the back of Faf's century, the Texas Super Kings win this by 6 wickets.  Yorker, on the pads, Faf du Plessis flicks this to short fine leg and takes a single to seal the game.

4:41 AM IST The new season kicks off with a bang - The 2026 MLC season gets off to a fast start as we see 441 runs being scored in total in Match 1. Texas Super Kings, who finished 2nd in the league stage last time around, are up and running, whereas Seattle Orcas start with some early jitters, given it is a very changed unit from last season. Next up, we have the first doubleheader scheduled of the season. First off, things kick off with LA Knight Riders taking on San Francisco Unicorns on Friday, June 19 at 8.30 pm GMT, and that will be followed by a clash between Seattle Orcas and Washington Freedom, beginning at 12.30 am GMT (the next day). Both matches will be played here in Dallas, and you can also join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Cheers!
4:38 AM IST POTM - Texas Super Kings captain, Faf du Plessis, gets the award for his match-winning and unbeaten knock of 113 off just 52 balls. Faf heaps praise on the venue, stating he loves batting on this great wicket and wishes the entire tournament took place here. Although he acknowledges that his team was under pressure after conceding a massive score, he notes that they cracked the chase wide open during the Powerplay and expresses immense pride in how the team fought back. Faf points out that the combination of a short boundary and a strong wind made bowling from one end incredibly tough. On a personal note, du Plessis reckons that he bats for intensity and strike-rate rather than milestones, explaining that while quick cameos are useful, a significant score around 75 at a high strike-rate truly impacts the game. Faf concludes by sharing his excitement for participating in the tournament and expresses his deep affection for the Super Kings franchise, highlighting their immense loyalty and support across all global leagues.
4:30 AM IST The Presentation ceremony...
4:30 AM IST Record stand sets the ball rolling - Earlier in the day, Faf du Plessis won the toss and asked Seattle Orcas to bat first. The duo of Tim Seifert and Shayan Jahangir started decently with the bat, but soon enough, they started to shift gears. They went on to add 191 runs for the first wicket, which is the highest stand for any wicket in T20s on US soil as per the on-air commentators. Once Jahangir got out, the Super Kings started to make a comeback. Nandre Burger bowled a highly economical spell and young Amshi de Silva showed his skills as well, picking up a wicket in the process. The Orcas managed to get a solid score on the bowler, but slightly less than what they would have liked given that onslaught through the middle overs.
4:24 AM IST Let's hear from Seattle Orcas' stand-in skipper - Harmeet Singh, standing in for the injured Marcus Stoinis, explains that the surface initially caused the ball to stop and hold a little bit before the arrival of dew allowed it to slide through much better. While he offers kudos to the opposition batters, especially praising the exceptional way Faf du Plessis played, Singh remains highly pleased with his own team's performance, calling their massive first-innings total a really good statement with the bat. Acknowledging that high-scoring games can easily go either way, he draws plenty of positives from a strong tournament start but notes that their bowling execution is still a bit off as this newer group continues to gel and get to know each other.
