History beckons Team India in Mumbai on Saturday, where a victory over Sri Lanka would end their 28-year wait for a second World Cup.

The win would be doubly sweet if Sachin Tendulkar were to hit a match-winning 100th international hundred, having missed out in the semi-final victory against Pakistan, where he fell 15 runs short.

But if we are to go by history, playing on his home turf at the Wankhede stadium has not always proved lucky for Tendulkar.

India have won six of 10 ODIs played at the Wankhede featuring Tendulkar, but the four defeats include the only game against Sri Lanka in 1997. Opening the innings, the Little Master was out for only 2.

And the only other time he played a World Cup match here — in 1996 against Australia — he scored a superb 90 but was stumped off a wide delivery from Mark Waugh, which triggered a batting collapse and resulted in a loss for India.
