Ombudsman asks BCCI to follow up on Pravin Amre’s ‘conflict of interest’ issue

As per the ombudsman’s order, Amre had to choose between his managing committee seat with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) or his coaching stint with the Indian Premier League outfit, Delhi Daredevils.

The order also directed the BCCI to take appropriate action against Amre for violating the conflict of interest rules.

However, it’s been over two months, but there is no word either from the MCA or Amre. Taking a note of this, complainant Nadim Memon again wrote to the ombudsman to look into the matter.

The ombudsman on Thursday directed the BCCI office-bearers and CEO Rahul Johri to “know what course of action has been adopted in relation to the said issue.”

Meanwhile, there was more trouble in store for Amre. It is learnt that the Mumbai stalwart is under the scanner from a vigilance committee from his employer Air India. As part of the investigations, letters have been sent to the MCA and the BCCI over his remuneration as coach with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team and Delhi Daredevils.

However, a source close to this investigation said there is no concrete picture as yet. “Vigilance department works upon complaints and also on its own intelligence. This is a by-product of another case (related to Amre). It is too early to determine whether there is any valid case in this,” a source said.

Amre was unavailable for a comment.
