Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga turned 35 on Tuesday and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to wish the pacer in style. Remembering his days of facing the fast bowler, Tendulkar said that as a batsman, he would always look at the bowler’s hand and not the hairstyle. Malinga was known as much for his highlighted curls as he was for his deadly yorkers.

Tendulkar’s message read: “When it came to batting against #LasithMalinga, I always said ... baal ko nahin, ball ko dekho (don’t look at the hair, look at the ball). 😊 Happy birthday, my friend.”

Having made a name for himself as a limited-overs specialist, Malinga was a top draw in the Indian Premier League till 2017. But the Lankan went unsold in 2018 and decided to turn mentor for Mumbai Indians.

In international cricket, while Malinga got the better of Tendulkar twice in Test matches, the Master Blaster was dismissed four times by the Sri Lanka pacer in ODIs. Clearly, this shows that Tendulkar’s message should be taken seriously.

Tendulkar and Malinga have both been an integral part of the Mumbai franchise and the batting maestro has often spoken of how it was difficult to read the ball off Malinga’s hand thanks to his slingy action.
