Sreesanth-related evidence handed to Delhi Police

The friction between the Mumbai and Delhi police has been set aside for a change and the two forces are co-operating in the Twenty20 betting and spot-fixing cases as there are many common accused. The Mumbai crime branch handed over evidence related to S Sreesanth to the Delhi police on Saturday following a court order.
A Delhi police team was in the city in the past week to collect the seized material, which sources claimed have high evidential value in the spot-fixing case. Mumbai crime branch sources said since Sreesanth, who has been banned for life by the BCCI, is not an accused in their case, all articles seized from a hotel at the Bandra Kurla Complex where he allegedly stayed, including key CCTV footage, was handed over to the Delhi police. The recovered articles belonging to Sreesanth assume significance because some of them (diaries) contain phones numbers of bookies while the CCTV footage with bookie could be used as fool-proof supplementary evidence in establishing the player’s links with the bookie syndicate.
Crime branch sources say Sreesanth through a travel agency had booked two rooms in the hotel, one for him with the other used by his friend Jiju Janardhanan, a cricketer-turned-bookie. Sources said Sreesanth can be seen with Janardhanan in the seized CCTV footage.
“The three dairies of Sreesanth show that he used to write on a fairly regular basis about his personal feelings. However, that had stopped and the cricketer began writing a lot of religious stuff in his dairies,” the sources said.
In the raid, police had also seized an Apple laptop, a Blackberry phone, one ipad, a SIM card, a Tata photon card, three dairies and `72,290 in cash, all belonging to Sreesanth. They seized a Blackberry phone and an ipad from Janardhanan’s room.
