Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Highlights, Asia Cup 2023: SL beat BAN by 21 runs in Super 4 encounter

Top class effort by the substitute fielder Dushan Hemantha as Nasum Ahmed swings hard at a pitched up delivery by Theekshana. The fielder makes an excellent effort and grabs a stunner, before showing great presence of mind and releasing the ball before he fell over the boundary ropes. However, the third umpire signals it for a six. TV replay shows that his foot had touched the ropes before the brilliant effort.

Meanwhile, Pathirana wraps up the show in the next over as he cleans up Nasum Ahmed for run a ball 15. Bangladesh are bundled out for 236 in 48.1 overs as Sri Lanka win by 21 runs.

Pathirana cleans up Shoriful Islam for run a ball 7 with a full delivery, angling in from round the wicket. 

Two boundaries also come from the over as BAN reach 224/9 in 47 overs. They need 34 runs in 18 balls

Theekshana strikes twice in same over as Taskin Ahmed is trapped LBW for 1(3). 

Sri Lanka are two wickets away from win as Bangladesh reach 200-8 in 44 overs.

Towhid Hridoy connects a back of a length ball by Pathirana for a boundary through backward point. Seven runs come in the over. 

Theekshana comes to bowl the next over and he starts with a over the waist height no-ball, following which the freehit is smashed for a six by Towhid Hridoy.

Theekshana responds with a wicket, traps him LBW in the next delivery. The batter takes a review but umpire's call comes into play as the balltracker showed the ball brushing the stumps. Hridoy falls for 82(97). BAN 197/7 (43.2 overs)

A welcome boundary for Bangladesh as it comes after a vey long time. Towhid Hridoy sweeps a straight ball by Wellalage, which races away for a four towards backward square-leg. BAN: 129/4 (3 overs)

As Sri Lanka search for another wicket, Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim are doing some rebuilding for Bangladesh. The boundaries have dried up and they are focusing on strike rotation. BAN 107/4 (27 overs)

Matheesha Pathirana joins the party as Bangladesh lose three wickets in quick succession. Shakid edges the ball, which is collected by the wicketkeeper, however, the umpire isn't interested. SL immediately go for a -review and UltraEdge confirms a nick. Shakib falls cheaply for 3(7). BAN 73-3 (16 overs)

There was a LBW appeal against Shakib Al Hasan later in Shanaka's over, following which they take a review. However, the ball was pitched outside the leg stump line so Sri Lanka lose a review.

Dunith Wellalage gives five runs in the next overs as BAN reach 65/2 in 15 overs.

Shanaka continues from the other end and has now got rid of Mohammad Naim, who is surprised by the extra bounce. Decides to turn away from the ball, but gets a top edge in the process. The ball skies up in the air before settling in Kusal Mendis' gloves. Naim falls for 21(46). 

Dasun Shanaka gets Sri Lanka the first breakthrough as Mehidy Hasan Miraz departs for 28(29). Goes for a pull against back of a length delivery and connects it with the top portion of his bat, which ends up being a simple catch for substitute fielder Hemantha at short mid-wicket. 

Litton Das is the new batter in as BAN reach 57/1 in 12 overs.

Matheesha Pathirana is introduced in the attack but Mehidy keeps the scoreboard ticking. He hits the pacer for a boundary as eight runs come in the over. BAN 55-0 (11 overs)

Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz help Bangladesh muster 47 runs in the first powerplay. They need another 211 runs in 40 overs. BAN: 47/0 (10 overs)
