Unfazed by the criticism over the one-day squad sans Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in some quarters, BCCI Chief Selector Dilip Vengsarkar has strongly defended the choice of players for the ODI series in Australia. “We have to look ahead. What is the point in picking up some players whose career would last just a couple of years?” Vengsarkar who was here for a function, said.

“I may or may not be the selector tomorrow. But we have to build up Team India with a futuristic projection,” Vengsarkar said.

India deny rift over one-day squad selection

MS Dhoni has denied reports of a rift in the team over the selection of the one-day squad to tour Australia.

There has been an angry reaction in India to the omission of Sourav Ganguly from the squad, with newspapers reporting a split in the ranks.

But Dhoni, who will captain the one-day side when Test skipper Anil Kumble returns home after this week’s final test in Adelaide, said there were no problems in the India camp.

“I think it has affected journalists more than it has us,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.
