'We may get to see a 600-run season from...': Parthiv Patel makes big IPL 2023 prediction for young India batter

IPL 2023: Parthiv Patel lavished plenty of praise on a young India batter and also made a huge prediction for him.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans kickstarted their campaign on a dominating note, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 season opener on Friday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing a target of 179 runs, Hardik Pandya-led GT reached 182/5 in 19.2 overs, courtesy of a knock of 62 runs off 36 balls by opener Shubman Gill.

Gill has been in stunning form in international cricket, and it was expected that he would get going right from the first match in IPL 2023. His action-packed innings consisted of six fours and three sixes, destroying CSK bowlers until the 15th over.

Speaking on JioCinema, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel raved about Gill, and also pointed out Wriddhiman Saha's role in the chase. "The way the Gujarat Titans started their chase. We saw Wriddhiman Saha get the license to use the first six overs to his advantage as much as he could. On this wicket, the target was below par, so a strong start is essential", he said.

"I think the Gujarat Titans got that and kept the momentum. Shubman Gill did what we know Shubman Gill can do and carried over his international form into the IPL. We may get to see a 600-run season from Shubman Gill", he further added, also making a huge prediction.

Wriddhiman played a knock of 25 runs off 16 balls during the chase, and Vijay Shankar (27) also made a crucial contribution. Meanwhile, Rajvardhan Hangargekar bagged three wickets for CSK. Initially, CSK posted 178/7 in 20 overs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad clobbering 92 runs off 50 balls.

For GT's bowling department, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Alzarri Joseph took two wickets each. Last season, Gill was fifth in the Orange Cap race, with 483 runs, and he will be aiming to better that ahead of the upcoming 50-Over World Cup. After a good start, GT face Delhi Capitals in their next match, on April 4, in New Delhi.
