In a very close game of votes, of the 11,068 people who were surveyed by 7.45pm on Wednesday, 51% said he did not deserve the price tag, while 46% believed that Rs 14 crore for Yuvraj was value for money. The remaining 3% couldn't make up their mind about it.

Royal Challengers appeared a bit miffed that they paid out an additional Rs 4 crore to Yuvraj after they bid Rs 10 crore only to see the auctioneer Richard Madley re-open the bid to allow Kolkata Knight Riders into the ring. The bid eventually ended at Rs 14 crore in favour of the RCB after the KKR pulled out at Rs 13.5 crore.

Yuvraj's fan base had seemingly shrunk with his mixed showing for India off late, but that did not affect his takers at the auction. He played the last edition of the tournament for the now-defunct Sahara Pune Warriors. The 32-year-old has also played for the Kings XI Punjab in the past.

This is the first IPL auction where the bidding is being done in Indian rupees with a total of Rs 274.50 crore available across eight teams. Uncapped Indian players will be making their debut in the auction.
