AISA-CYSS alliance releases manifesto for DUSU elections

AISA will contest the top two posts for the DUSU polls scheduled on September 12.

Affordable accommodation, student clinics, CCTV cameras and transportation for students are some of the promises made by the alliance of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) student wing CYSS and the Left-affiliated AlSA in its manifesto for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections this year.

The manifesto, jointly released by the alliance on Saturday, also promised “zero tolerance policy” against hooliganism on campus, establishment of internal complaints committees (ICCs) to check cases of sexual harassment and a “movement” against “privatisation” and “commercialisation” of higher education.

The Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) and the All India Students Association (AISA) had on Wednesday announced an alliance for the DUSU polls scheduled on September 12.

AISA will contest the top two posts. “While AISA will contest the posts of president and vice-president, CYSS will compete for secretary and joint secretary,” AISA DU president Kawalpreet Kaur said.

“On the lines of AAP’s mohalla clinics, we are going to set up chhatra (student) clinics on campus if we get elected. We will install CCTV cameras and police booths to control hooliganism and violence,” said senior AAP leader Atishi Marlena while releasing the manifesto.

Meanwhile, a member of the left-backed Students Federation of India (SFI) was allegedly attacked by some members of the Congress student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) at north campus on Saturday.

Akashdeep Tripathi, presidential candidate of SFI in the DUSU polls, had gone to file his nominations around 4:20 pm when the incident took place. “Around 10-12 SUV cars came to kidnap Akashdeep and stop him filing his nomination. He was brutally assaulted by them when he resisted,” said SFI state Secretary Prashant Mukherjee.

The NSUI denied the charges. “None from NSUI was present in that group. The SFI is falsely implicating NSUI,” said NSUI Delhi coordinator Akshay Lakra.

A police complaint was registered in the matter.
