Delhi watchman, accomplice killed woman after she refused to have sex with them
Two days after the body of a 42-year-old woman from Ghaziabad was recovered from a lane in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar, police on Monday claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of a caretaker of a nearby building. The police said that the man had killed the woman, with the help of his relative, because she had resisted their rape attempt. The caretaker’s relative is currently absconding. The two had allegedly smothered the woman to death.
The 40-year-old, identified by his first name Sushil, was arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnore. Sushil told police that he knew the woman for the past some months and she often visited his employer’s home. Sushil was working as a caretaker at the house of the employer for the last 15 years. His employer is settled in Canada with her daughter’s family, said the police.
“During the interrogation, Sushil confessed to the crime and told the police that he, along with his associate, killed the woman after she objected to establish physical relations with both of them. His version will be cross checked once we nab his associate,” deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said.
At around 9 am on Saturday, locals found a woman lying face down on the road with blood oozing out from her nose. No visible injury marks were found on her body, police said. The body was partially disrobed.
Locals alleged that the woman had been murdered by the caretaker of a nearby house. They claimed that CCTV footage of a nearby house showed the caretaker dragging the woman’s body out of his employer’s house and dumping it on the lane around 4.23 am.
The police said that a second camera had caught Sushil fleeing on a motorcycle with a man. A case of murder was registered at the Vivek Vihar police station.
“We identified the suspects and learnt that they had fled to Bijnore. Our teams conducted raids at various places in Bijnore and finally nabbed Sushil,” said a police officer, associated with the case.
