'The demands are genuine': No headway in Jharkhand govt's talks with protesting students, stir to continue

Jharkhand govt held talks with student groups over JPSC, JSSC exam irregularities, but protesting aspirants said the stir will continue until demands are met.

The Jharkhand government on Saturday held talks with various student outfits amid the massive agitation over alleged irregularities in the recruitment exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), besides issuing an email ID seeking feedback from stakeholders, even as the protesting aspirants decided that their stir would continue until all their demands are met.

The development comes as the protest over the paper leaks entered its 15th day on Saturday.

Govt panel meets multiple student groups as exam reform demands intensify

A four-member cabinet ministers’ panel first met the faction of protesters led by JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, whose fast over the issue entered its seventh day on Saturday.

They then met delegations from the Congress-backed NSUI, Adivasis Chatra Sangh (ACS), and the JMM-backed Jharkhand Chatra Manch (JCM). On Friday night, the government had held similar talks with a 10-member delegation of the JPSC/JSSC Reforms Manch — a groups of JPSC and JSSC aspirants.

“The demands of the protesting aspirants are genuine,” said state labour minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav, a member of the panel set up by the government, after the back-to-back meetings.

Late on Saturday, the group of ministers met chief minister Hemant Soren to apprise him of the details of the series of meetings with the student groups.

Even though there was no official communication from the government side till the filing of this report, officials aware of the matter said the government is likely to meet the first delegation once again on Sunday before taking a final call on their demands. The JCM placed five demands before and the NSUI placed six in front of the government.
