Dussehra traffic advisory for Delhi: Which places to avoid amid Durga idol processions, Muharram

Traffic snarls are expected across the city this weekend as festivities for Dussehra and Durga puja will coincide with Muharram. Here are details of the advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police.

Delhi Traffic Police said traffic restrictions will be in place across the capital on Saturday due to Dussehra celebrations and Durga idols immersions.

Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory, stating that there will be restrictions on movement of traffic on Netaji Subhash Marg, Nishad Raj Marg (New Darya Ganj Road), Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and Turkman Gate, depending on the crowd situation, after 5pm.

Traffic will be affected between 1pm and 5pm in Chittaranjan Park, Outer Ring Road from Chirag Delhi flyover upto Mathura Road, Connaught Place Outer Circle, Minto Road, Mandir Marg and Nehru Place.

Commercial vehicles and buses coming from Mukarba Chowk side will not be allowed on Wazirabad Bridge and will be directed towards ISBT Bridge from 2pm.

Yamuna Pushta Road towards Jaitpur from Kalindi Kunj would be one way. Traffic from Jaitpur side to Kalindi Kunj will be directed to Kachchi Colony Road, Agra Canal.

Officials said that devotees must avoid parking their vehicles on the road sides near the ghats. Only limited parking is available at Kudesia Ghat, Hathi Ghat, Kalindi Kunj and Mayur Vihar Extension Ghat.

For Muharram

Delhi Police has also issued a traffic advisory for Muharram, which will be either on October 1 or October 2, subject to the sighting of the moon, officials said.

The processions for the Muharram will start from Chhatta Shahzad, Kalan Mahal and pass through Jama Masjid, New Delhi Railway Station, Chelmsford Road, Connaught Place, Parliament Street, Tughlak Road , Aurobindo Marg, Jor Bagh, before reaching Karbala.

“There is likelihood of slowing down and congestion of traffic along the routes of the processions and adjoining roads. General public and motorists are advised to avoid the routes mentioned in the advisory, and follow the directions of the traffic policemen posted all along the routes of procession to avoid inconvenience,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic) Garima Bhatnagar.
