A 25-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a pestle by his cousin following an altercation over money on Thursday morning. Both men belonged to Manipur.
The incident took place at a rented flat in Bhagwan Nagar at Sunlight Colony where the deceased Suihaimi Khangah was living for the past 6 months.
Police said Khangah was murdered by his cousin Lei Shingham, 22, in front of their mutual friend. Shingham and his friend fled the house after the murder. While the friend joined police investigation late Thursday evening, Shingham is still absconding. The three worked at different call centres in the National Capital Region.
Deputy commissioner of police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said Khangah and Shingham had an argument while returning home from the friend’s room around 5.30 am. They were accompanied by their mutual friend.
“The argument was over Shingham withdrawing around Rs 15,000 from Khangah’s account without his knowledge. As the three reached the ground floor of the building, Shingham rushed to the terrace, brought a pestle and hit Khangah’s head with it. As Khangah collapsed on the floor, the duo fled,” said Biswal.
Police said the landlord found Khangah bleeding when he came out after hearing the commotion. The landlord called the police. Khangah was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment.
“ Khangah’s brother AS Shunreiwung, who works at a call centre in Gurugram, reached the hospital and claimed his brother’s body. He told us he too lived in the same flat but was in Gurugram for the past few days to attend the company’s training sessions,” Biswal said, adding the two brothers were living in Delhi for the past four years.
A case of murder was registered at the Sunlight Colony police station. Police have recovered the pestle used in the crime. It belonged to the landlord. Police said they are on the lookout for Shingham.
