NEW DELHI: The suicide of an AAP worker in Delhi over alleged harassment was raised in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday with the BJP saying the Election Commission should derecognise the party.

The Congress, too, made similar demands for AAP for using the image of Golden Temple on its youth manifesto in Punjab.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi claimed that the lady was asked to compromise when she flagged the matter to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and she went into depression, only to commit suicide later.

“This is not the case of a woman worker being exploited. A structure is being created within the party to exploit women. The EC must take note of it,” said Lekhi, a Lok Sabha member from New Delhi.

Congress MPs Ravneet Singh Bittu and Santok Singh Chaudhary demanded the EC should derecognise the AAP for hurting religious sentiments.

Chaudhary alleged that an AAP legislator has been named in a case of alleged desecration of Koran, while Bittu claimed that using the picture of the Golden Temple on its youth manifesto had hurt the feelings of Sikhs in Punjab. Both also sought derecognition of AAP.
