NEW DELHI: The Delhi Congress on Monday attacked the education policies of the Delhi government and demanded the government stop dividing the students in “bright and weak categories” through its ‘Chunauti’ programme.

The party has also decided to constitute a fact-finding committee to probe the death of a student, who committed suicide allegedly after returning from the Parent-Teacher-Meeting on July 30.
Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken, said that while changes in the education policy should have been implemented only after discussing it with experts and all the stakeholders, the Delhi Congress will write a letter to the Delhi CM on the one-sided and arbitrary changes made in the education policy.
Delhi Congress spokesperson, Sharmistha Mukherjee raised questions over the Pragati books.
“The distortion and dilution of curriculum by the Delhi Government through Pragati books and focused syllabus has been done in a non-transparent manner..,” said Mukherjee.
A senior official at the Directorate of Education (DoE) said the Pragati books were not a replacement for the textbooks.
“The Pragati textbooks are just workbooks to help teachers teach those weak students,” said a senior official.
