NEW DELHI: The 16-year-old son of a Colonel was allegedly beaten up by two policemen posted on the route security for the prime minister’s cavalcade, in Dhaula Kuan on Tuesday evening.

The police said a probe has been initiated on the basis of the CCTV footage from the area and disciplinary action would be taken if the cops are found guilty. No formal complaint has been registered in the case.

Kishley, a resident of Dwarka Sector 21, had gone to Dhaula Kuan for basketball coaching. He was reportedly waiting for his driver, when the policemen asked him to move out of the way as the PM’s cavalcade was to pass through the area.

In the meantime, Kishley received a call and while he was talking on the phone, the policemen pushed him out of the way. This led to an argument.

Kunal Mishra, Kishley’s father, said the cops did not give him time to move and started thrashing him. He said the cops pushed Kishley and he fell on the ground. His tooth braces came out, spectacles broke and he started bleeding. Then he was forcibly taken to the police station, Mishra said.

“Kishley has been referred to the RR hospital for further treatment. We will register a complaint against the cops on duty once he is better. Why would they treat a kid like a criminal?” Mishra said.

Joint commissioner of police (southwest) Dependra Pathak said the boy was loitering in the area. The policemen found his movement suspicious and asked him to move away. When the boy refused to move, he was taken to a side by the constable. “The boy went berserk and had to be contained,” Pathak said.

Surender Kumar, DCP, southwest said the police have initiated a probe into the matter and given a punishment posting to the constable involved. “We have requested the child and his parents to record their statements and register a complaint. We will carry out a fair probe. Strict action will be taken against the guilty,” he said.
