A case of negligence was registered against the owner of the German Shepherd, who lives 50 metres away from the house where the Pinscher was tied to a chair in the lobby.

The large German Shepherd, Tyson, police said, entered house number 70 in Rajendra Park and attacked the Pinscher, Coocoo, in front of two girls who were watching TV, on Sunday evening.

It took just two minutes for the Shepherd to snuff out the life of the Pinscher.

Shamsher Singh, the brother of the Pinscher’s owner, lodged a complaint at the Rajendra Park police station against Satish Kumar, owner of the German Shepherd.

Shamsher told police that Kumar was not taking proper care of the German Shepherd despite repeated requests .“He (the German Shepherd) even mauled one of the tenants of the owner some time back,” he said.

An FIR was lodged against Satish Kumar under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal) and 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) of the Indian Penal Code.

“We have booked the case against the owner of the German Shepherd. The dog entered the lobby of the dead dog’s house after trespassing three gates,” said assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Manoj, the investigating officer.

Police said the Pinscher was a registered dog with a Japanese firm, Sankyu India Logistic and Engineering Private Limited, where Shamsher Singh’s brother Raja Ram is employed for seven years. “We are yet to get in touch with the owner. He was not at home when we went there,” the ASI said.

If found guilty under section 289 of IPC, Satish, employed with a private firm, could be imprisoned for six months, or have to pay Rs 1,000 fine, or both. The offence under section 429 of IPC comes with an imprisonment of either description, for a term which may extend to five years, or a fine, or both.

The German Shepherd is a breed of medium to large-sized working dog that originated in Germany, while the Miniature Pinscher is a small dog, also of German origin.
