NEW DELHI: Delhi University’s poll body has sent notices to candidates contesting the students’ union election over using printed posters for campaigning.

“All the students have to submit their replies within 24 hours failing which ex-parte decision will be taken,” DS Rawat, Delhi University’s chief election officer, said.
The candidates have to respond to the notices, which have been sent to most of the 91 students who are contesting and even filed nominations on their emails, till Tuesday evening.
The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election will be held on September 9.
Authorities said they had to issue the notices as students were using printed material for campaigning which violates the orders of the National Green Tribunal and Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations.
Before the nominations were filed, the election office wrote to different political organisations, municipal corporations and Delhi Police to take action against those littering.
The candidates, who received notices from DU, however, chose to pass the blame on to their opponents.
“The replies with the documentary evidence will be sent to the grievance committee for investigation and necessary action,” Rawat said.
He added that among students who had been served notices, there were many who had not replied.
“We are sending reminder to all of them and if they don’t reply by Wednesday evening their names will be forwarded to chairperson grievance committee,” said Rawat.
This year, DUSU elections will witness a three-way fight between the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress’ National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and All India Students Association (AISA) — the youth wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML).
Ninety-one candidates are in the fray for the four crucial posts of the students’ body. There are 27 candidates for the post of president, 19 for vice-president, 24 for secretary and 21 for the post of joint secretary.
At least 22 nominations were rejected by the election committee during scrutiny.
