Man killed for filing plaint against niece’s stalker

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man, who was reportedly being pressured to withdraw a police complaint he filed against a local for stalking his niece, was allegedly shot dead by two bike-borne assailants on Monday night.

The man was on his way to get his cooler repaired when the two men on a bike intercepted him and opened fire. The bullets hit his chest and he collapsed on the spot. The assailants have not been identified.

Investigations said the man had complained against one Sagar, a local in the area, who was allegedly stalking and harassing his niece. The man had filed a case at the Bawana police station. Sagar was arrested and sent to jail.

A senior police officer said, “Sagar came out on bail a week ago and was reportedly pressuring the man and his family to withdraw the complaint. His family members said Sagar used to call their residence and often intercepted him on his way to work but he had refused to compromise.”

“We are very sure it is Sagar and his men who have killed our son. His only fault was that he stood for his niece, protected her and refused to reach a compromise,” a relative said.
