NEW DELHI: Security agencies are surveying Delhi airport’s Terminal 2, from where Spicejet and Go Air flights will take off starting December, to assess how many personnel will be required to guard it

T2, from where international flights used to operate before T3 was commissioned, is situated next to T3. As T2 was lying unused, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) started renovating it and the Bureau for Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) will provide security.
“Even if a portion of the terminal is being opened, the entire area needs to be secured to prevent any unauthorised entry. Initial visit suggests at least 600 personnel are required… apart from what we have at T3, T1 and cargo terminal,” said a senior official of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards airports.
A part of T2, next to T3, is being renovated so that low-cost domestic operations of these two airlines can be shifted there. Currently, Indigo, Spicejet and Go Air operate domestic flights from T1. While Indigo will continue to operate from T1, the other two will be shifted for two years till T1’s expansion is completed, said airport sources. T2 is five kilometres away from T1.
“Arrangements are also being made to provide feeder service to Metro from T2 since it is not connected to the Airport Metro Line. An assistant commandant-level officer will monitor the security, need for baggage scanners, door-frame metal detectors and other security-related equipment which will be communicated to the DIAL,” the official added.
