NEW DELHI: The police has detained two men after a 46-year-old pedestrian was run over by a speeding Toyota Fortuner car in the wee hours of Wednesday in south Delhi’s CR Park area.

The men were detained from their residence in Alaknanda.
Arjun Yadav, a driver, was reportedly walking back to Chirag Dilli after dropping his employer at his flat in CR Park when the car hit him and threw him a few feet high in the air. The driver of the Fortuner car, Rajender Singh, then reversed the car in a bid to escape, and rammed a Honda City parked on the roadside. The two men then abandoned the vehicle near Shiv Mandir, before fleeing the spot.
A local recognised Yadav and called his employer to inform him about the accident.
“We rushed to the spot and saw Yadav lying on the road, bleeding profusely. The police reached the spot and took him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The man who saw the car crushing Yadav told us that it was being driven by two youngsters. They were driving at a speed of 140-150 km per hour. Yadav had been working with us for the past 14 years,” Yadav’s employer, Mihir Nag said.
During questioning, Singh told the police that he fell asleep while driving and lost control over the steering. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered and the police have accessed the CCTV footage.
2-YEAR-OLD CRUSHED BY FORTUNER IN ROHINI
In another incident, a two-year-old boy was crushed by a vehicle in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Wednesday afternoon. The car, a Fortuner, was reportedly entering the gates of a hotel, when the child came before it and was crushed.
According to the police, Dipanshu, lived with his parents at Inder Enclave and often visited the guard to play with him.
“The guard had reportedly asked the kid to stay inside the room, till he opened the gate for the Fortuner car that was honking. The moment he went to open the gate, the kid came running behind and was run over by the car. The guard, Shiv, informed us and also rushed the kid to the hospital but he was dead,” a senior police officer said.
