A Delhi court has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a six-year-old girl.

Dinesh, a resident of Okhla, had raped the minor after taking her to a secluded place pretending to be her maternal uncle.
Additional Sessions Judge Arun Kumar Aryan allowed the counsel’s plea for leniency and awarded the minimum prescribed sentence to the accused, taking into account his young age and poor family background.
“The present offence attracts a minimum sentence of 10 years with fine and the same can be extended up to life,” the ASJ said.
The court turned down the convict’s contention that as the victim was just a minor, the possibility of her being guided by her mother could not be ruled out.
The victim had identified the accused after her mother lodged a complaint.
“The victim was coherent and stable at the time of examination. The statement inspires confidence, trustworthiness and can safely be relied on for conviction without any legal impediment as elaborate cross-examination by defence has not brought any crack in it,” the court said.
An FIR was registered at Okhla police station at the instance of the minor victim's mother on August 22 in year 2007.
