17 teams to curb violation of laws

In a significant development with far-reaching results, district administration in Faridabad announced an action plan to deal with number of ills plaguing the society.

This is probably for the first time that 17 separate teams have been constituted at district level in Faridabad to check air and water pollution, illegal use and misuse of water, burning of household wastes, use of polythene, under-age driving, and driving without license and without helmet among others.

The 17 teams have been formed at police station levels and each team will have three to four officials headed by a senior officer. Three to four teams will be guided by an officer of HCS cadre. Interestingly, the teams have been allotted digital video cameras to shoot every action.

The officials said if the team members find wastage of water by any household, the team has to record it and slap penalty. Similarly if the team notices anyone driving without a helmet, this too has to be recorded before slapping penalty to the violator of the traffic rules.

“The idea behind this step is to save the environment from pollution, stop misuse of water and also to effectively enforce traffic rules,” said Praveen Kumar, deputy commissioner, Faridabad.

“If any untoward incident takes place due to carelessness of the officials responsible for maintaining roads, sewer lines, manholes etc, they will not be spared,” he added, saying, “The teams have been armed with video-cameras to shoot their actions as it leaves no scope for corruption. The team has to justify their action.”
