"My husband teased me saying why am I applying for a Janta flat. But I wanted to own a piece of property that I can claim to be funded entirely by me. And here I am today… small yet my own flat," said a beaming Ragini Sehgal.

The forty-year-old resident of Tagore Garden was the first lucky applicant whose name was picked at the draw of lots by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Monday. She will be the owner of a small flat (EWS) in Dwarka. Sehgal (48), a stock market broker, said she prayed intensely this morning before the draw of lots started in Noida.
"Four years ago, I had won some kitty but nothing after that. This is the first time I have ever tried for a draw of lots for a property. I am very happy that I have won a flat," she said.
The mother of two teenaged children, Sehral stays in a joint family in a house owned by her father-in-law in Tagore Garden in west Delhi. "I wanted something of my own and didn't want to take any help, not even from my husband," she added.
But she doesn't know where the flat is. "So I will go and see the location first. How it is, the neighbourhood, etc.," Sehgal said. "I will never sell it. This is my lucky charm," she added.
