Haryana DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal on Wednesday said the total force strength will reach 5,600 after the new additions join in. Currently, the department has 3,405 personnel, at least 34% less than the number of staff sanctioned for a city of 1.5 million people.

“The additional force will add more strength to curb crime. Also, the 150 new inspectors and sub-inspectors will help speed up the process of solving pending cases. Investigations will also gather pace,” said a senior police official. “The recruitment process will take a year,” added the official.

Additional personnel will also be taken into the traffic department. This will help in enforcing traffic rules strictly. “Efforts are being made to fill all vacancies. We have informed the authority concerned about staff shortage, and this problem will be solved soon,” the official said.

Currently, the police have 17 posts of ACPs sanctioned, but only seven have been filled. Gurgaon has six DCPs — one short of the required number of officials of that rank. Besides 440 vacancies for head constables, there are vacancies for at least 16 posts of inspectors, six sub-inspectors and 131 assistant sub-inspectors.
