“Rana, the husband of Anita who procured the 14-year-old girl before she was forced to marry an older man and subsequently into the flesh trade, and his friend Rahul alias Salauddin, have been arrested and remanded to two days in police custody,” said Ajay Chaudhary, additional CP (southeast).

Sources said that the duo had confessed to having ‘bought’ the victim and then sending her off with different men for 10 to 15 days at a stretch at rates ranging between R13,000 to R20,000.

Meanwhile, Munni Khatoon, who was coaxed into giving up her children and remarry for ‘the children’s own good’ by a criminal gang, including women, revealed more details about the systematic abuse she was subjected to.

A class seven dropout, Munni, the police said was on the verge of becoming a thief at the behest of the same people who trafficked her for money and were simultaneously playing with the lives of her flesh and blood. “Munni was given the alias of Anita and introduced as a woman of the Jat caste to her potential 25-year-old groom in Rajasthan by the gang who just wanted her children out of the way,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south). When Munni decided to drop out of the marriage, her traffickers slapped her with a condition to ensure that at least something came off the ‘transaction’.

According to investigators, Munni was the ‘perfect’ victim for the interstate gang of forced-matchmakers who had demanded R3 lakh from her potential groom, one Harpal Singh, in Rajasthan’s Jhunjunu.
