The Delhi Police have arrested five persons, including a call centre employee, for making and selling fake degrees bearing the name of Jamia Millia Islamia.

Police investigations have revealed that people looking for jobs but without a university degree would buy them from the gang, which charged anything between Rs 50,000-Rs 60,000 per degree. Police said the accused had sold 100 such degrees till date to people who have procured jobs in Delhi and the NCR.

The arrested persons were identified as Nimesh Pruthi , 29, Martin, 35, Atif.,28, Rehan Khan,26, and Jitender,32.

"Pruthi is working as an assistant manager in a brand realty company while Martin is a business consultant. Atif works as a facility help desk executive at a telecom company and Khan is a private builder," said Sandeep Goel, joint commissioner of police (crime) said.

Police have also seized 30 fake degrees and marksheets of courses including BA, B.Com, B.Tech, MBA and school certificates of the university from the accused.

Pruthi, Martin and Atif were the first ones to be arrested from near New Friends Colony while they were waiting for some customer to deliver fake degrees of BA/BCom.

During interrogation they confessed that they had procured the fake degrees and mark sheets of Jamia Millia Islamia from Rehan and Jitender. The two were later arrested.

"Rehan and Jitender were the masterminds of the racket. After preparation of fake certificates, they handed these over to the other three accused to sell it further on a hefty price," Goel said.
