521 autos seized, 3,254 erring drivers fined for violations

The traffic police have stepped up its drive to impound and suspend permits of the unauthorised drivers plying autos on city roads.

The traffic police have stepped up its drive to impound and suspend permits of the unauthorised drivers plying autos on city roads.

The police have already impounded 521 autos and prosecuted a mammoth 3,254 auto drivers during the two shifts of their special drives, which ran between 9pm and 10.30pm on Wednesday and 4pm and 6pm on Thursday.

Of them, 258 autos were impounded on Wednesday and 263 on Thursday evening from various city roads. “Drivers of these autos were found not only without public service vehicles badges, but also without other documents such as driving licenses,” said a traffic police officer.

Initiating a special drive on Wednesday night to catch and book unauthorised auto drivers and owners, the Delhi Police slapped fines on 1,480 auto drivers for various violations. Of them, 657 were found without SPV badges.

On Thursday evening, 1,774 auto drivers and owners have been challaned and were fined with Rs 2,000 each and their permits were also suspended for a period up to one month, said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
