With the arrest, on Tuesday, of drug runners and currency counterfeiters, police say they have been finally able to solve the mystery of the escape of three convicted ISI agents in January this year.

Delhi Police arrested Baldev Singh (64), Anees Khan (32), Arbaaz (18), Jarnail Singh (55), Sanaulla Meer (55) and Javed Ahmed Bhat (40) — all allegedly involved in running drugs and circulating counterfeit currency.

The police have now established that from among these accused, Anees Khan allegedly helped one of the ISI agents, who escaped from the Lampur Detention Centre in January.

The three convicted ISI agents — Abdul Razzak, Mohammed Sadiq and Rafaqat Ali (all in their 30s) — had served their jail terms and were to be deported to Pakistan, when they escaped from Lampur on January 3, on the pretext of going for a medical check-up.

According to the police, Mohammed Sadiq, after escaping from Lampur, contacted Anees and asked him for money.

The police had earlier declared a reward of Rs. 50,000 for each of the escaped ISI agents.

They are now trying to nab these accused, for fear they might have again become active and could foment trouble during the Games.

Police said that like Anees and his gang, the ISI agents were also involved in drug running and counterfeit currency.
