A clash of date, time for entrance tests

DU's centralised calender for the English entrance tests in 17 colleges has not been able to prevent a clash of dates.

A centralised calendar for the English entrance tests in 17 colleges devised by the Delhi University has not been able to prevent a clash of dates as it has overlooked similar tests for other subjects in various colleges on the same day.

Students said that if the time of the exams did not clash they were too close for them travel from one college to another. The English entrance test at Miranda House, for example, is clashing with the Journalism entrance test at the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce on June 20.

Similarly, the English entrance test at Indraprastha College is scheduled to end barely 30 minutes before the Journalism entrance test at Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College on June 19. “Indraprastha has its English entrance from 12 noon to 1.30 pm on June 19. Just half an hour later, Lady Shri Ram has its Journalism entrance. It will be next to impossible to make it from Shamnath Marg in North Campus to South Campus in such a short span of time,” said Devangana Kalita, a DU aspirant. Kalita, originally from Assam, said she and her friends were making the rounds of colleges together for submitting applications.

Indraprastha College media co-ordinator Manasvini Yogi said Indraprastha and LSR dates were not clashing and the problem was merely of a narrow time gap between the two tests.

“Students may have some problem in trying to reach LSR from north campus in 30 minutes. Our English entrance test is as per a centralised calendar decided by the DU department. At that time they ignored the Journalism entrance for which the same set of students are applying. Students appearing for an entrance test for BA Honours in German at Ramjas College on June 19 are also facing the same problem. The university should have taken all these factors into consideration while preparing the schedule,” said Yogi.
