If you spent an entire day standing in a queue to apply for a DDA flat costing Rs 30 lakh, you may not be amused to discover others can spend as much on a suit.

The world’s costliest suit, priced at Rs 30 lakh for a four-metre fabric length, arrived in Delhi on Tuesday.

Holland and Sherry, the Scotland-based textile giant that has Hollywood stars Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise for clients, is behind the initiative.

Through a retail arrangement with Digjam, Holland and Sherry plan to introduce a limited edition of the ‘Vicuna Aymara’ suit fabric. The fleece, perceived as the rarest, costliest natural fibre in the world, is

obtained from a vicuna, a long-legged slender necked mammal found in South America’s Andes Mountains, particularly in Peru.

Holland and Sherry marketing director Malcolm Campbell said just 60 metres of super-premium fabrics — including merino wool; Scottish merino and Australian wool — in the formal wear, casual wear and evening wear ranges would be brought to India.
