A day before Aam Aadmi Party government tables its flagship Jan Lokpal Bill in Delhi Assembly, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh alleged that the government was not keen on getting the bill passed in the House.

Singh said chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was trying to force the downfall of his own government. “Despite knowing that the moving the bill without prior approval from the Centre is unconstitutional, Kejriwal is trying to justify it. It shows that the Kejriwal government is not serious about the bill. If they were serious they would have followed the constitutional provisions,” Singh said.

Congress Legislature Party leader Haroon Yusuf said the government was instigating the Congress to withdraw support by adopting unconstitutional means. Haroon added that his party will continue to support the government on 18 issues. “The government was now looking for an escape route, become a martyr and make it an issue in the Lok Sabha elections. But we will not withdraw our support,” Yusuf said.

While the AAP government has been talking about calling a special session on Sunday in an open stadium, Singh added that the circular received from the Assembly secretariat does not mention anything about the venue of the session on February 16.

“Kejriwal and AAP leaders are not only breaking rules, they have also broken all records in telling lies,” Singh alleged.

He said Kejriwal had said that the government would have to bear a power subsidy bill of `200 crore, but his government is now bringing in a subsidy bill of `372 crore in the assembly.

Senior Delhi Congress leader Mukesh Sharma alleged that most officers in Delhi government have registered their objections on both Swaraj Bill and Lokpal Bill. “I dare Kejriwal to make the cabinet note with views of the officers, public.”
