Accident in north Delhi: DPS students injured

Eight students of Delhi Public School Mathura Road on their way to school in a Maruti Versa Taxi had a narrow escape on Saturday morning when a mini truck hit their vehicle near Majnu Ka Tila in North Delhi, reports HT Correspondent.

According to police, a mini truck — a Tata 407 — allegedly jumped a red light and hit the taxi around 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Poor visibility due to heavy smog in the morning could be the reason behind the collision, said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

All the eight students were in the age group of 8-10 years, he said.

“All of them are residents of Timarpur and Civil Lines,” the officer said.

“While they were taking a U-turn near Chandgiram Akhara, a loaded Tata 407 jumped the red light and hit the Versa from behind. Then it lost control, piling on the vehicle carrying the children,” the officer added.

Nine-year-old Mahima suffered injuries on her abdomen and back area while nine-year-old Ayush suffered bleeding in his ear. Both are stable now, the doctors treating them said.

Most of the children were released from the hospital in the course of the day. The driver of the Tata 407 escaped.
