An army inquiry into the clash between officers and jawans of an armoured unit at Samba in J&K last August has recommended action against 60 soldiers, including the commanding officer of the unit, sources said on Wednesday.

The court of inquiry has recommended the termination of services of five jawans for their involvement in the incident, allegedly triggered by a jawan’s suicide. The Samba episode was the third such incident involving clashes between officers and jawans in the last three years.
It is learnt that the army will initiate administrative action and four officers and five junior commissioned officers for lapses on their part. The officers, include the commanding officer of the unit. Three JCOs and four jawans will face administrative action, while 39 jawans will be posted out of the 16th Cavalry.
