The girl underwent a two-hour-long surgery for the multiple wounds on her skull. The procedure consists of surgical removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissues.

Her little finger of the right hand was also damaged and the right wrist had been fractured, which doctors fixed during the surgery. "She was bleeding profusely when she was brought to us around noon. Our team of neurosurgeons evaluated her head injury. A CT scan showed parts of her skull broken so we decided to go ahead with the surgery," said a senior doctor at Safdarjung.

The girl was wheeled into the operation theatre at 4.30pm and shifted to the ICU around 7pm. "She is fairly stable and will be closely monitored. It will take time but she should recover fully," said the doctor.

Both Roshini and Akash, the attacker who slit his throat, were rushed to Safdarjung and All India Institute of Medical Sciences' Trauma Centre, respectively, by the university authorities immediately after the incident. Both were in a critical state when they were taken to the hospitals. The attacker was unconscious when brought to the casualty.

"He died within almost an hour of having been brought to us. The suspected cause of death seems to be poisoning, but we cannot say anything for certain before the post-mortem," said a doctor at the AIIMS trauma centre.
