After two bomb hoax calls on consecutive days created panic at the MCD headquarters in New Delhi, the civic agency on Wednesday decided to strengthen security at the heritage building by putting restrictions at the entry and car parking at the complex.

Mayor Kanwar Sain reviewed the security at the Town Hall with senior MCD and police officials.

An anonymous call claiming that a bomb has been planted in the building prompted the police to launch an elaborate search in the premises this morning, but no explosives were detected and the call was found to be a hoax. A similar hoax call led to the evacuation of the Town Hall on Tuesday.

The Mayor directed the officials concerned to review and boost the security at the Town Hall and said the entry of cars should be restricted and vehicles of only eligible political functionaries and officers should be allowed inside the complex.

As per the directions of Sain, instructions have been issued that entry into the Town Hall should be allowed only on the basis of the identity cards or entry passes to be issued at the reception of the civic body headquarters.

The Mayor stressed on close coordination between police and MCD officials for more effective and fool-proof security.
