A Class 10 student of a school in Paschim Vihar was apprehended in Vikaspuri on Tuesday, while he was allegedly travelling in the stolen motorcycle bearing the number plate of his own two-wheeler.

"He stole the motorcycle from Vikaspuri a week ago, after the vehicle gifted by his father was stolen," V Renganathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said.

The student, a resident of Vishnu Garden, allegedly managed to steal the motorcycle from the Lal Dental Clinic in Vikaspuri. He then replaced its number plate with his own.

On verification through ZIPNet, an official internet database, it came to light that the chassis and engine number of the recovered two-wheeler was the same as that of the one stolen from Vikaspuri.

"He was passing through Vikaspuri when our Constables noticed him and asked him for registration papers of the motorcycle which he could not," Renganathan said.

Police said they apprehended the boy and informed his parents.
