On Wednesday, May 1, Hindustan Times found out that the under-construction subway entries are lying as deserted death pits for commuters.

The one on KG Marg sports a 10-odd ft drop and has the potential of catching pedestrians unaware. "Earlier there were work-in-progress boards put up by the New Delhi Municipal Council. For the past few days, these boards are missing and this can become quite dangerous," a security guard in a nearby building had pointed out.

On Monday, as the morning office hour rush hit the busy KG Marg, people were greeted with two concrete slabs covering the under-construction subway entry point. "I travel on this route every day in the morning as well as after work in the evening. The open subway entry was really dangerous for people, especially at night. This was a necessary move," Ajay Kumar, a resident of Anand Vihar, said.

The Connaught Place restoration project, which was conceived in April 2004 and got final approval from Delhi Urban Art Commission in November 2008, has missed numerous deadlines. The latest deadline is June 30.
