After INA, Pitampura, city to get its third Dilli Haat in Janakpuri

The Delhi government has approved the construction of a third Dilli Haat in Janakpuri. The facility will be thrown open to the public in August 2013.
“West Delhi will have a modern and the greenest Dilli Haat, which will become a cultural and craft nerve centre. It will have ample parking provision in Janakpuri, which is surrounded by a number of densely-populated colonies. The new haat will also enrich the quality of life in west Delhi,” said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The Delhi Development Authority has allotted 9.80 acres of land to the Delhi Tourism for the construction of the haat.
“The land comprises two pockets — A and B. Pocket A measures 8 acres and B 1.80 acres. Delhi Tourism has prepared a plan for Dilli Haat on pocket A, which will be developed with an estimated cost of Rs 81.44 crore,” said a government official. The official said the haat will have well-designed landscaping for the convenience of visitors. There are provisions for full power backup, fire-fighting and electronic surveillance.
The other two haats in the Capital are in INA and Pitampura. “Dilli Haat at INA and Pitampura has had amazing footfalls since their inception. Dilli Haat, Janakpuri, is planned in two pockets — one measuring 8 acres will have 131 craft shops, 29 air-conditioned shops, hall, auditorium, amphitheatre, food court, five dedicated towers for music, museum, coffee home, art gallery and information centre, party lawns, landscaping and horticulture and a youth hostel on pocket B measuring 1.80 acres,” added the official.
Dilli Haat food and craft bazaar was first established in 1994 at INA. The bazaar was built on a storm water drain utilising innovative architectural techniques. The second Dilli Haat was constructed in Pitampura, northwest Delhi, on 7.2 acres of land in 2008.
Besides, the Delhi Expenditure Finance Committee gave its nod to eight projects worth Rs 257 crore.
