All excited about the Metro

The long wait is finally over. The inauguration of the Metro stretch connecting Gurgaon to Central Delhi and further with North Delhi comes as a great relief for college students who had to earlier change buses and hitch a ride in shared taxis to reach their destination. Eshani Mathur reports.

The long wait is finally over. The inauguration of the Metro stretch connecting Gurgaon to Central Delhi and further with North Delhi comes as a great relief for college students who had to earlier change buses and hitch a ride in shared taxis to reach their destination.

Now, they can avoid the early morning rush and reach their classes on time in a cool and clean environment.

Students of both North and South Campus colleges have found a convenient and safer mode of travel. "There is a Metro station near my house and it’s so much easier to travel by a Metro. It’s a big relief and now nobody can challenge the public transport system in Gurgaon with the arrival of the service. I am very happy," said Mehak Batra, a student of Kamla Nehru College and resident of Greenwood City.

With a Metro station bang opposite their colony, Maruti Vihar students are happy that they would finally be able to make it to their 9 a.m. class. "The Metro is much safer and now I will avoid all the traffic jams. It used to take me two hours to reach college but now I will save on time," said Deepika Chaurasia, a student of a South Delhi college.

Some youngsters, however, rue that the Metro doesn’t go right up to their college and they have to take a longer route.
