There was a palpable buzz in the atmosphere as the two finalists took the stage for one last hurrah at the 14th Vasant Valley inter-school debate on Friday.

The final, as it turned out, was a girls versus boys slugfest, as the team of girls from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and boys from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, debated 'Expressing seditious sentiments shouldn't be a punishable wrong'.

The debate, held in parliamentary style, had three speakers on each side, with each one given an allotted time to debate the topic. Finally, the girls netted the trophy.

"It is a huge achievement for us as the team from DPS had seasoned debaters and looked really strong through the competition," said a delighted Nishtha Sinha, who also won the 3rd best speaker award.
