The Centre on Tuesday said it is considering a proposal to enact an All India Gurdwara Bill. "The proposal to enact an All India Gurdwara Bill has been under consideration of the government," Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

A draft bill in this regard has been circulated for comments in Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and National Commission for Minorities, he said, adding that some states have already sent their comments.
However, the minister said, the Bill would not be introduced in the Parliament at present.
"There has been no unanimity on the issue and in the absence of broad consensus amongst the stake holders, at present there is no proposal to introduce the Bill in the Parliament," Maken said.
The government has also initiated process to conduct elections to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. " Steps to commence the process of holding elections to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee as per the existing provisions have been initiated," Maken said.
