Anti-corruption law last on AAP’s dialogue list

It was in its last much touted Delhi Dialogue that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) finally broke its silence on the Delhi Janlokpal Bill — the reason for its decision to quit the government last year.

Talking to people at Patparganj on Tuesday, party national convener Arvind Kejriwal said the party resolves to pass the anti-graft bill soon after coming to power. The people will, however, have to give an absolute majority to AAP for it to come to power and fulfill the promises made, he added.

Kejriwal had put in his resignation after being in power for 49 days last year after both the Congress and BJP stalled the passage of the Bill. The AAP government was formed with the support of the Congress.

Unveiling its motto of ‘Big Change without Big Spending’ the party in a statement said, “All public officials (including the Chief Minister, Ministers and MLAs) of the Delhi government shall fall within the purview of the investigation. Public officials of Delhi will be required to furnish an annual declaration of assets. Any undeclared assets will be liable for confiscation. This will ensure time-bound investigation in matters of corruption. The Delhi Lokpal will have the power to initiate investigations and prosecution against those charged with corruption. Citizens’ charter would be introduced in all government offices in Delhi. Whistleblowers will be provided protection and awarded for their contribution towards creating a just system.”

The party also promised to make all data on the government projects, performance and accounts transparent and online along with making all government services and forms available online.
