Major traffic jams were reported from Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mathura Road, Africa Avenue, Bhisham Pitamah Marg, New Delhi Railway Station to Paharganj, Ashram, Delhi Gate, Najafgarh, Nizamuddin, Adarsh Nagar to Jahangirpuri, Mori Gate in front of Tis Hazari gate, Rani Jhansi Road, Baraf Khana, Sarai Kale Khan, Kalkaji, Modi Mill, Qutub Road roundabout and Mukarba Chowk among others.

Among the worst-hit were areas were those near Parliament and roads leading to Connaught Place in the heart of the city. While the office-goers failed to reach their respective workplaces on time, many students missed their classes due to traffic jams.

According to Delhi traffic police helpline, vehicles moved at a snail's pace at Azad market, Dhaula Kuan in south Delhi and Mori Gate in north Delhi.

"I could not move from a particular place for about an hour near Connaught Place during the day," said Ankit Sharma, a motorist. It took over two hours for Rahul Muthreja to reach Barakhamba Road from Noida, Sector 62.

As major arterial roads were waterlogged, the secondary roads connected to these saw traffic spillover. With no space left for vehicles to move, even the pedestrians faced hardship in walking down from the roads.

Falling of trees and breakdown of DTC buses and other vehicles also hit the traffic.
